First things first! I get a lot of questions about my name...
KOKO NERVELLI is my chosen Native American name that honors my ancestry. "Koko" can mean "Night" or "Joyful," depending on who you ask. My Cherokee ancestors spell my last name a bit differently, however it means "Water Child." Put it all together and my name means Joyful Night Water Child. I am proud of my name and I feel privileged to respect my heritage.
I was the editor of several school newspapers in my youth. As a young adult, I was a contributor to local publications in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. I worked in various administrative jobs by day, and as a musician by night. Friends encouraged me to write a book when they saw how I maintained a positive attitude through very unusual circumstances. Life got in the way and I buried those journals for about twenty years. (Thank you, Catherine Seybold, for never giving up on me!)
Hubby took an early retirement and we moved to the mountains of Middle Tennessee, where we enjoy a simple Life with our rescue pets. It took a while for me to adjust to the country lifestyle, but with the help of the Locals, I was able to embrace my new surroundings. Now I finally had time to write that book…but where do you start? My Ah-Ha Moment came when a neighbor asked me, "How many places have y'all lived?" That was it! I would take the reader through those dwellings and share the Life Lessons I learned along the way.
I planned to compile one book, check that off my Bucket List (things to do before I die...again…) and explore some other hobby. Well, it didn't exactly happen that way. As I strolled down Memory Lane, blending fact and fiction, I tripped over the twisted branches of my Ancestry Tree and fell flat on my face. I got quite a shock, but I didn't have to walk through that scary journey alone. I had my readers with me every step of the way. With their support, I faced my fears and found peace in my Truth, completing my At Home Series. Many readers have thanked me for my blunt honesty. Together, we continue to Learn the Lessons of healing, forgiveness, and detachment.
Upon completion of my first three books, a good friend of mine by the name of Troy D. Smith encouraged me to step outside of my comfort zone and write some PURE fiction. Much to my surprise, my first short story was published in the Foxleaf Anthology, and I can honestly say that the experience took me to another level.
Writing was no longer just a hobby because the writing bug bit me and I've been scratching the itch ever since. It turned into a full fledged business right before my eyes…and I'm so grateful. People say that I'm "living the dream," but honestly, I never dreamed that one day I would become a respected author. I truly feel that I am exactly where I need to be, doing what I am supposed to do…and that is a wonderful feeling! I am privileged to have formed lasting friendships with people across the pond…and beyond!
So far, Koko Nervelli Books have reached all over the United States and have been purchased in ten foreign countries. I'm happy to announce my partnership with MOUNTAIN HAVEN PRESS. I value their support and look forward to improving my craft with their help.
I appreciate y'all very much! Here's the deal...If you keep reading, I'll keep writing. Remember, your reviews are important, so I thank you, in advance, for your kind words.
Take care, Koko
Amazing! February 15, 2014 By Brian Shemwell - Suspended (At Home Series) (Book 1) (Kindle Edition) "You know, it's hard for me to find a book I can't put down, this book did the trick, I loved it! I have my nose dug into the second book, The Lie, and can't find the time to set it down in my free time. Koko, you have really out done yourself, you forever have a reader here and I will follow your book's wherever they go. You have such an amazing story to tell, and I am happy that you took the time to do so. Keep up the amazing work. Thank you!"
The Lie Tells the Truth! August 25, 2013 By CarolBe (Florida) - The Lie (At Home Series) (Volume 2) (Paperback) Many of us will identify with this book. All families have skeletons in their closet, and this book shows us how hard it can be to discover them. Would it have been easier for a child to know the truth? In some families it might work, but not in all. Koko does an excellent job revealing what the family fib meant to her.
A Perfect Ending! May 12, 2014 By Riverbank Books (Sparta, TN) - Truth Beyond The Lie: Living With The Voices (At Homes Series) (Volume 3) (Paperback) "Truth beyond the Lie" was a perfect ending to an amazing series! I loved the supernatural events that happened in the authors life. My favorite was the 'presence' attached to the rocking chair."
Good over Evil! November 4, 2013 By Regina (Christiana, Tennessee, United States) - Three Squared (Metaphysical Murder Mysteries) (Book 1) (Kindle Edition) "I love reading books where good goes up against evil. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this intense tale where a sweet natured psychic reader battles an evil voodoo priest and his daughter."
Spellbinding! May 12, 2014 By Florida cracker - Mystic Birth (Metaphysical Murder Mysteries Book 2) (Kindle Edition) "I could not put it down! The characters were so real, I feel I know them and the suspense was riveting. Of all of Koko's books so far this was the best. The interaction of the characters, unexpected chain of events, and building plot, all awesome."
Intense! May 14, 2014 By Florida cracker - Guilt of the Undead (Metaphysical Murder Mysteries Book 3) (Kindle Edition) "Compelling, loved the characters. Such a blend of complex personalities. The book was so intense I had to take breaks intermittently, but had to return to see what came next. Please keep writing Koko."
Wonderful Book, Great Author! August 24, 2013 By Jason - Beans and Greens (Kindle Edition) "This was a wonderful book. I'm not originally from the south, but moved here roughly 16 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed not only the stories, but the way they were written. They really pulled me in. I will enjoy reading it again."
Touching Story! February 14, 2014 By Tennessee Nana (Sparta, TN, US) - Nana in a Box (Koko's Children Stories Book 1) (Kindle Edition) "A very simple but warm and touching story illustrating the special bond between grandparents and grandchildren. A good story to share especially if grandchildren live some distance away."
5.0 out of 5 stars Dean Koontz meets Beverly Lewis! July 27, 2014 By Riverbank Books (Sparta, TN) - Laid to Rest (Kindle Edition) "Loved LAID TO REST by Koko Nervelli. I was all, "This is such a sweet story to oh my gosh!" Middle way through the story I was literally on the edge of my seat! I especially liked the supernatural elements; it was like Dean Koontz meets Beverly Lewis. Like most of Ms. Koko's stories, there's usually a "Life Lesson" hidden in there somewhere. I think courage is the lesson in this story. The ability to overcome adversity and fear, but it is also the ability to overcome anger and guilt. A wise lesson that this novel teaches, repeatedly."
"A very enjoyable and quick read!"March 2, 2015 After reading FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN (GENERATIONS), Roberta Kuester added, "I will check out all new books by Koko Nervelli."
5.0 out of 5 stars. "ALL CAREGIVERS SHOULD READ!" WHEN YOU HAVE NO CHOICE (Stories for Caregivers), September 23, 2016 Amazon Customer, Format: Kindle."I put off reading this for a long time. I was thrown into my role as caregiver for my husband after he was operated on for colorectal cancer leaving him with a permanent colostomy. I just kept telling everyone that I wasn't a caregiver. That was almost 3 years ago and I am still a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week caregiver! Koko, you've done it again! Another GREAT book! I'm very thankful that I broke down and read this book! Much love, Mary & Doc Olds"
"I can't put it down!" February 22, 2017. GJF was planning on reading one story per day in SOUTHERN SHORTS, but she couldn't stop until she finished the book. She especially loved the story entitled, "Mama in the Woods," because it brought back memories of her own grandmother.
5.0 out of 5 stars. Hope may suck, but this book does not! August 27, 2017. Lady Wordsmith said, "I feel I gained an insight into my own feelings as I read this book. It was a fascinating look into various situations we find ourselves in every day. I really couldn't put it down. I appreciated the fact I was able to get two day shipping. The author does not force her opinions on the reader but encompasses all faiths. This is not the first book that I have read by Koko Nervelli as I enjoy her writings. I have no qualms in assigning a five-star review to Hope Sucks!"
Test Readers were speechless! September 2017. Prior to publishing WHERE THE CREEK TRICKLES (Verses of my Child Song), Koko read the poem entitled, "THE CRIMINALS," to a memory care support group. They were overcome with emotion, as it captured their stories.
